Steven Holcomb: ‘We’re still afloat’

Jan 6, 2014, 9:35 AM EDT

Steven Holcomb‘s perfect start to the season ended with a crash and two seventh-place finishes in Winterberg, Germany, over the weekend.

They likely weren’t the results he hoped for, but they were ones he expected.

Holcomb’s analysis was posted on his social media accounts Monday:

Holcomb, the 2010 Olympic four-man champion, has not won a World Cup or World Championships race outside of North America since Dec. 13, 2009, which also happened to be in Winterberg.

The first seven races this season that he won were spread across Calgary, Alberta, Park City, Utah and Lake Placid, N.Y.

He’ll try to end that drought this weekend in St. Moritz, Switzerland, where he won gold in a mixed team event and bronze in the four-man at the 2013 World Championships.
