A retired Russian Olympic bobsledder’s sleeve caught fire while he carried a torch during the Olympic torch relay in Siberia.

The Russian website lifenews.ru posted video of part of the Olympic flame falling from two-time Olympian Pyotr Makarchuk‘s torch and onto his sleeve.

Most of his left arm, covered in a jacket, went ablaze as he waved to a crowd with his right arm.

Agence France-Presse recapped the episode:

Russia’s Interfax news agency said that Makarchuk was left unhurt by the apparent leak.

“An assistant quickly put out the fire and gave the athlete a new uniform,” the news agency wrote from snow-covered Abakan.

“After that, the (cauldron lighting) ceremony continued,” the report said.

Makarchuk, 41, placed eighth in the 2002 Olympic four-man bobsled event and 15th in the two-man. He also took ninth in the four-man at the 2006 Olympics.

This is not the first time the Olympic torch relay participant has caught fire.
