Michael Phelps passed Soviet gymnast Larissa Latynina for the most career medals when he reach No. 19 this summer. Now the Russians are giving the swimming legend his due. Phelps, abs and all, appeared on the cover of GQ Russia’s October issue as their International Man of the Year for his accomplishments in London, and for – in their words – becoming the “chief Olympian of all time.”
“Phelps was the athlete of the decade, century, millennium, or whatever time has passed since the first race of the ancient Greek Olympians,” read the entry, roughly translated.
Phelps posted the cover photo on his Facebook fan page, and added “… so cool! What an honor!”
